Happy world book day week! It's got to be one of my favourite days of the teaching year. Anytime when I can promote #readingforpleasure makes me incredibly happy. This year I think I'm going to be dressing up as the bad tempered ladybird.
Eat.
This week has been icy cold... still! So this week was all about nice warm dinners to thaw out with. A family favourite used to always be braising steak, but I know it needs a good ammount of time in the oven, which I don't regularly have. But, after a breezy jog I thought it would make the perfect dish. All you need is 2 pieces of braising steak, a bunch of chopped up carrots, a few shallots, a pack on mushrooms cut in halves and leave it all cooking in gravy for at least 2 hours. Just before you are ready to serve, mix with some cornflour to thicken it up. Serve with some creamy mash potato.

Teach.
This week it has all got to be about World Book Day on Thursday.
Here are some of my best activities to promote #readingforpleasure.
1. The yellow brick road story retelling journey. Fantastic to get the chn moving around the class, laminate the cards and set up the road wherever you want!
2. Design your own bookmark with your favourite book character.
3. 20 questions, guess my book character.
4. Get the chn blogging about their latest favourite reads.
5. Get the chn to create performances for parts of their favourite books.
6. Hot seating- get the characters to hot seat the other chn to find out who their books character is!
All in all just remember to make it fun, a day dedicated to igniting and lighting joy of reading, what is better than that?
As a homework challenge this weekend, I am going to ask the chn to take photos of themselves reading, prizes for the most unique place they can find!

Explore.
On Sunday I spent a lazy couple of hours wandering around the Tate Modern. A great way to get out of the house and appreciate some fantastic free art. If you're looking to make a day of it, why not head to the national gallery and Tate Britain as well. If you don't mind digging into your pockets, I would highly recommend the latest exhibition at the RA, From Matisse to Monet. If you are a wildflower at heart, you will simply adore this treat!
